Exhibition Opportunity

Hi Friends,

Raymond James Financial Services on Cabot Street is looking for a local artist to display artwork in their offices. This is a great opportunity to hang work that all of their (financial!) clients will see - you will be able to leave business cards and a bio as well. The space is modest but very well lit and with a lot of foot traffic. Contact Bea if you are interested!

There is space for large paintings and photographs so this could be a good opportunity to get a few things out of the studio for a month or two...

Hi Friends,

I'm happy to say that I have made a career change! I have left my position as an Admissions Counselor at Montserrat College of Art and will be embarking on a new journey as a faculty member at the Maud Morgan Art Center in Cambridge, MA!

I will be teaching three different courses:

Acrylic Painting, a course for adults exploring (duh) acrylic painting, Drawing Safari in Your Own Back Yard where I will work with students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade to create unique creatures comprised of real and imagined animals (this one is going to be fun), and Draw and Paint Your Way Around the World where I make it no secret that other cultures have a huge impact on my work and try and pass this enthusiasm on to 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

I will also be teaching two classes at Montserrat College of Art this semester - one is a similar Acrylic Painting Workshop for adults and the second is a College Portfolio Prep class for teens interested in applying to art college and who might need some guidance with their portfolios. I'm very excited about these opportunities because I love to teach but also because it will leave me more time to paint! I hope you'll help spread the word and help to foster interest in these two wonderful and very different, art institutions.

Friends of This Collective Pull

This Collective Pull has been hibernating! Bea was in the mountains of Georgia for six weeks at the Hambidge Center and Julie has been working it in the fashion world. So - in an effort to post more often on this here blog - and to help spread the love (which is really what This Collective Pull is all about) we are going to start posting the endeavors/exhibits/projects/etc of friends of This Collective Pull, as well as our own news. This project was always about creating community and encouraging others to do the same. If you have any news you'd like to share, an upcoming event or would like us to help spread the word of a project you're working on - please send it our way! Nothing is too big or too small, and you don't have to have exhibited under the This Collective Pull name - you just need to be groovin' to the same tune and in to the whole community thing. You also don't need to be a visual artist...anyone contributing to the Massachusetts creative scene is welcome! Also, if you send us a jpeg image we'll put it in our sidebar with a link to the event's website or blog for the duration of the event. Dig? Send thoughts on over to this.collective.pull@gmail.com.

Now unless you have been hiding out in a cave somewhere (and maybe even then) you should know about this project that began in Berlin in 2006. It has since become a global endeavor and has now found a home in Western Massachusetts thanks to our friends at Now.For.Art.

Hi Friends,
Below are a few photographs taken of the exhibit without the crowd of the opening reception.

The figurative work of Justin Bothwell held it's own while sharing a space with the abstract color fields of Rose Olson.

Fellow Montserrat College of Art Alumni Bradford Rusick, Kathleen Gerdon Archer and Catalina Viejo Lopez de Roda share a wall and bring note to their unique styles and approaches.

Julia Purinton brought the outside in with this large landscape.

A collaboration between Bradford Rusick and Allie Hornak is proudly displayed above the mantle with other fabulous works by Luba Shapiro, Anthony Montouri, Peter Brefini and Heather Counselman.

Jenna Antonangeli's photographs had a great presence in our hallway space bringing people from room to room.

It was so wonderful seeing the relationships between pieces develop as they were hung together in the space. Certain pieces also developed a very unique conversation with the space itself, often complimenting the crumbling texture of the ceiling, or the lines in the hardwood floor! Hi Friends,

This is a placeholder for the up and coming images from the exhibition. We have a lot of images from the opening reception, but also thought it would nice to post images of the exhibition "sans crowd." So for those of you who were un-able to make the opening, stay tuned! Also, keep an eye out for an interview about This Collective Pull in the North Shore Art Throb. We have already started planning for the next big event, which is unlike anything we've done before. Big plans my friends, BIG PLANS!

Opening Reception!

Thank you to all of you who attended the opening reception for This Collective Pull : A Mass Collaboration! We had a wonderful turnout at the reception, received a lot of great feedback, and made a lot of new friends. The work looked great in the space, and Bea has been back a few times since to see the show sans-crowd and to show the exhibit to a few who were un-able to make the opening. While hanging the show it was really wonderful to see the connections between pieces that we didn't see while sorting through the submissions. We also began to see connections that the pieces made with the actual gallery space. We are both so pleased to see the growth of this curatorial project from the first installation (and the second!) Below are a few photos from the evening, with more to follow!

More info to follow shortly, here's a little update:

January 9th: Hi Friends! We (Bea and Julie) had a chance to visit fivesevendelle and were blown away! A big beautiful Brownstone in Mission Hill, complete with fireplace and chandelier. We agreed that the two of us as well as Liz and Eugene from fivesevendelle will be jurying the exhibition. This time around we can accommodate all mediums and are going to be pushing for a performance at the opening. Details are soon to follow but the deadline for submission will be January 28nd and the opening is February 6th! Plan on it!

January 1st: This Collective Pull is happy to announce an upcoming collaboration with fivesevendelle, an alternative artistic venue in Mission Hill, Boston. This round will have an open call to artists working in all mediums from the entire state of Massachusetts. Julie O'Boyle who was co-curator of the last show will be joining Bea again as we work to make this happen!!

Details and a call to artists will follow shortly.
